Episode 3 of Star Trek: Picard results in Picard and his new crew finally assembling and going into space. The episode begins with a flashback to the aftermath of the attacks on Mars 14 years prior to Episode 1. Picard and his first officer at the time are discussing Starfleet's decision to end the Romulan rescue efforts and Picard admits to Raffi that he gave Starfleet an ultimatum: accept the Romulan rescue efforts or he would resign. There was a bit of selfishness involved in that decision, as I don't believe that Picard fully considered or cared about what might happen to Raffi if he was no longer there. Raffi appeared to be on her last chance with Starfleet for reasons we don't yet know and once Picard left, they saw no reason to keep her around.   I watched Episode 2 of Star Trek: Picard and I must say, I am very fond of the fact that Laris also seems to be a master hacker of communications terminals! The treachery within Starfleet is a troubling pattern that seems to be repeating itself throughout the generations and that may be why the Federation appears to be drastically diminished at the point in time where Michael Burnham and the Discovery crew end up. There have been endless episodes and movies centering on members of Starfleet turning their back on their ethics and oaths in order to get what they want and the behavior of Commodore Oh and Admiral Clancy is no different; they are into secret combinations and betraying whatever and whoever they can to conceal duplicitous actions and plans. Commodore Oh and her little minion are clearly up to no good and they apparently have nasty plans for Picard as he strives to uncover the truth.   Thoughts On Star Trek: Picard - Episode 1 - January 24, 2020 Let's get a discussion going on this, shall we? I just watched the very first episode of 'Star Trek: Picard' last night and I can see how events here might explain the diminished Federation in Season 3 of 'Star Trek: Discovery'. What Starfleet did after the rogue synthetics committed the Mars massacre was erase a bit of the diversity that made Starfleet unique and they forced it on to the galaxy through the Galactic Charter. I know the Romulans appreciated Picard's attempts to try and help them during the supernova crisis, but that appreciation died when Starfleet as a whole stood by and responded with apathy. The survivors were left to their own devices to put their nation back together using the fragments of other broken nations, hence the society within the Borg cube and the androids being there.
